USB wlan Device in a tupper (or otherwise cheap waterproof) box. usb devices are cheap, they can be relatively far away from the host computer (with thin cabling), and they can easily be made relatively weatherproof:

1:00 we got ping with the broomstick antenna, but not with klosh's self-built dontknowthenameofthatantenna.
